How about an MVP commemorative baseball keepsake? Or a Stay Cool Sports Towel? What about a Louisville Tpx Youth Equipment Bag? Or for the enthusiastic amateur consider an instructional video such as A Parent's Guide to Baseball? There are also instructional baseball videos for the fan who hopes to hit like a baseball pro, the instructional video: Hit like a Pro.

What is the one common element that ties all these desirable objects together? They can be thoughtful and fun baseball gifts to give to the people in your life who love baseball.

How does one pick what baseball gifts to award the men in your life? For there will be many occasions from birthdays to just simple I miss you tokens, where baseball gifts can show you care.

First, you will have to watch at least one baseball game with your beloved. I know, he would be flattered that you are taking time to find out what sports he enjoys. So aside from building even more trust and love, it would be a sacrifice. But doing this would provide you a most valuable insight into what baseball gift would make him crow.

Take note of the baseball team he is cheering the loudest for and you will be able to find team insignia to give as a baseball gift.

Watch the baseball commercials attentively for clues. You will see possibilities as to the baseball gift best suited for your baseball fanatic.

You could gift him the team insignia towel as the baseball gift or a pair of sunglasses to wear during the baseball games in the stadium. Your thoughtfully planned baseball gift tells your man that you do think about him. Your baseball gift tells him you know he is special and it shows!

Dont Forget Your Batting Tee Time

Most experienced coaches are already quite familiar with the advice I am about to give. In their case, please forgive my restating of what might be obvious, and browse some of the other articles on this site. The new baseball coach, however, would do well to pay attention.

I am about to reveal to you the single most useful tool for improving the hitting skills of your batters. Please, take a seat. I don't want the shock to overcome you. Are you ready?

I present to you: the batting tee!

That's correct. The tee is the single most useful tool for improving the hitting skills of your batters. You may bellieve that your players are too old to benefit from a tee... and you could not be further from the truth. Did you know that major league hitters practice by hitting off of a tee every single day? Are you suggesting that your eight (or ten or twelve) year olds know more about hitting than Alex Rodriguez, Barry Bonds, Derek Lee, or other big league stars?

Now that I hopefully have your attention, I will explain why this is. Understand, there is no substitute for live pitching - tee drills cannot help with your batter's sense of timing, or his ability to pick up on or identify pitch location, pitch type, velocity, etc. But unless you have Greg Maddux pitching your batting pracice sessions, there is no way you can hope to put the ball in the same place every time, which allows you to analyze the batter's swing. With a tee, you can really watch what your hitter is doing, make suggestions, and get many, many repititions in in a reltively short period of time. This is the reason that, if you were to take your player to pretty much any professional hitting coach in the country, the first thing the coach would do would be to drag out a tee.

If your player has a hitch in his swing, you can identify it with a tee. If he needs to work on the inside pitch (or the low pitch, or the outside pitch), you can simply move the tee and give him extra repititions. If he has a loop or dip in his swing, you can place a second tee behind the one holding the ball and force him to adapt a correct swing path. With a tee, you can build the all-important muscle memory needed for a good, consistent swing.

I cannot emphasize this enough - very few practices should ever go by without your players hitting off of a tee. This is an absolutely ideal station activity, is easy to place, and if you happen to also own a net, can be done in even the smallest of spaces.

The bottom line: if you do not own a tee, and you coach a youth baseball team, go and drop a few bucks on one today. You will not regret the investment in the best hitting tool ever made.

Southpaw Throwing

Southpaw throwing baseball players are a prize in that there are a real scarcity of these lefthanders. Major league teams are constantly scouring the countryside looking for exceptional left handed throwers. First priority is to have good left handed pitchers on the team.

Check the roster of your favorite major league team and tell me how many southpaw pitchers are on the team. The professional roster will normally reflect only two or maybe three lefties on an eight man pitching rotation roster. Well ! you might say the team owners and managers had rather have a top heavy roster with right handed pitchers. I contend the shortage is simply a shortfall in jam up good southpaw pitchers.

How can it be? A kid who picks up his pencil with his left hand and attempts to demonstrate his writing gets the attention of his elders. Invariably, at least, to often the youngsters pencil is placed into his right hand as if it was a mistake for him to use that left hand. Now if this act is repeated enough times there will always be a shortfall in great left handed dexterity simply by the numbers. That is of course assuming the use of the right hand becomes the use by fiat and not by choice.

Enough of what might be here is the reality of it.

How many left handed third baseman have you seen playing baseball? The natural throw of the ball around the infield from the third base position almost dictates a left handed third baseman to be a no no. The timely natural throw from third base to second base to initiate the double-play is extremely awkward. It can be done smoothly by the blind spin throw but the player would be an exception instead of the rule.

How many left handed first baseman have you seen playing baseball? Without the use of actual numbers to back me up on this it is probably 90 percent of the first basemen throw left handed. The use of a left handed playing first baseman is the natural play motion involved in throwing to the other bases. The requirement for a left handed first baseman is based on the defensive fielding and play making. Now when there is a rock solid hard hitting right handed first baseman needed for his hitting abilities then bingo he is tagged to get the job done.

Could you right off the top of your head tell me the name of a southpaw thrower who just might be considered the most popular name to ever play the game? He was called the Sultan of Swat, The Great Bambino, and we all know him as The Babe. Yes indeed Babe Ruth.
